Week 7 - DONE!!

Yes! Week 7 is now history and it's on to week #8 of my journey to the Couch to Half Marathon!Couple of interesting things this week:
  1. It gets REALLY HOT after about 8:30am.. I learned this on the day I shot the video.
  2. NEVER eat a large Mexican Food dinner the night before a long run...  WOW!
  3. ALWAYS work those Tibia muscles, etc - IT WORKS! (shin splints mostly gone)
  4. ICE is your friend...IF the Tibial Stress Syndrome comes back for a visit!
  5. Listen to TOBYMAC's "Tonight" download when running.  VERY NICE!
  6. Starbuck's TAZO GREEN TEA is just incredible!  (just threw this one in!)
  7. Sweatbands are old school...but they do work!!

Have a great week and STAY HYDRATED friends.. The heat will be getting turned up a little this week hitting over 100 (or close) for most it!

Y'all be good!

Running again..WEEK 2

The first week of the official "Couch to Half Marathon" training program went well!  Not a shocker considering the mileage was just 6 miles total.

You have to keep in mind though that I am (literally) coming right up from the couch!  So six miles is a big increase in my world right now..   And if you must know, I even broke a sweat!!

To add a level of measurement of progress for me personally, I will be keeping time with RunKeeper (iPhone app) and get out the old bathroom scale to see if there is weight loss in the process.  I'll be keeping you up to date on these areas.. and I'll report what my "official" weight is next week.  Next week I have my annual physical examination..that'll be fun.  (The annual visit always reminds me of Chevy Chase getting his physical in the movie 'Fletch".. "MOON RIVERRRR")

Week 1 over and done and now I am a few days in to week 2.

FOR NOW THOUGH...I am off and RUNNING!

My Return to Running..

Abster & I relaxing.
No more excuses..time to run again.

Well, I've had a long break from running...probably almost 3 years (or is it 4?)...and I've missed it!  I am not exactly sure what I missed though.  Just something urging me to get back in the game.

It may be the energy it provides or maybe the mental part of "pushing through" to the end or it might just be the physical results.  One thing though, I do enjoy listening to Creation as it sounds off as I run.

I suppose it could be the the personal accomplishment I feel when crossing the finish line of a race. Not that I ever raced that much.

One of the great things about running was the many inspiring and nice people I "ran" across over the years.  They just keep running.  I met many of them down in Stockyards City when we started the Run With The Bulls.  I recall guys like Randy Pearn, Don Garrett, OK Landrunners and many others.. Great memories and so exciting! (but hectic!)

Starting today I will begin a new training program I found at DigitalRunning.com (also check out Hal Higdon).  It is affectionately called the "Couch to Half Marathon" plan.  I figure if there are people doing the "Couch to 5k" - why not the couch to 13.1 miles!  BOOM!!  Mainly I found a plan and am (quite literally) "running" with it!

So as we go into the next 24 weeks I'll be giving you at least weekly updates on my progress and hopefully do a few video blog posts too.

I hope you'll join me in my training to run a 1/2 Marathon in about 24 weeks!!  Nice!
